Class: 110803 – Multi-Media Publishing
School: Fern Creek Traditional High School
Teacher: Mr. Schneider

Course Description:
This hands-on course applies publishing and presentation concepts through the development of sophisticated business documents and projects. These documents include, but are not limited to, brochures, manuscripts, reports, programs, catalogs, newsletters, flyers, business forms, and graphs, web pages, on-screen presentations, and video productions. Equipment such as scanners, digital cameras, video cameras, and color laser printers may be utilized in creating the documents. Formatting, editing, page layout, and design concepts are taught. Distribution ready publication standards are applied to all projects. Students will develop communication skills, problem solving techniques, cooperative learning, and interpersonal skills.
Objective: At the completion of this class, students should possess skills to do the following:
Ø Create their own Web Page
Ø Create a Web Page for a teacher, club, sport, etc.
Ø Embed videos, music into powerpoint
Ø Hyperlink sites
Ø Download files online
Ø Embed files online
Ø Understand advertising products
Ø How to find html coding
Ø Create and demonstrate how a business is ran
Ø Explore and Investigate new Programs
Materials: Flash drive to class.
Class Rules:
1. What Coach Says Goes!
2. No Canned or Lid Drinks with a straw in lab!
3. No running or horse playing in lab!
4. No inappropriate websites!
5. No Ipods, cell phones, music in lab!
Grading Scale:
A = 93 – 100 Participation 10%
B = 86 – 92 Work 30%
C = 79 – 85 Projects 30%
D = 70 – 78 Tests 30%
U = 69 – below
Class schedule:
First Trimester
3 weeks: Review of Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel Power Point)
3 weeks: Visual Presentation (Movie Maker, Prezi)
6 weeks: Website Design (Weebly, Wix)
Second Trimester
3 weeks: Business Concepts and Terminology (Business Plan, Advertising, Budgeting)
3 weeks: Microsoft Publisher
3 weeks: Additional Software(Animoto, CAD (Homestyler), Comic Life, Photoshop
3 weeks: Create a business with financial records, 3-D Model of building, Business Cards, Web Page of
Business, On-line purchasing of Products, 30 second video using Movie Maker for advertisement.
(This curriculum order may change due to the discretion of the teacher.)
Performance Standards:
1. How to analyze the interrelationships of school and career planning.
2. What their personal performances and interests are and how to integrate assessment results into career planning.
3. How to analyze, interpret and evaluate present and future job markets.
4. How to make and defend a personal career choice.
5. How to have a database of careers and all areas that fit within them (salaries, education, work conditions, etc.)
6. Methods to modify behaviors that jeopardize the safety of self and others.
7. How to assess the employability attributes and work ethics of self and others.
8. How to use mediation and facilitation skills to assist with conflict resolution.
9. The effective use of appropriate technologies to complete tasks efficiently and/or enhance productivity.
10. How to interpret new knowledge, skills, experience integration into existing information and apply them to a workplace concept.
11. The process needed to develop short-term, intermediate and long-term goals for searching post-secondary programs and/or work opportunities.
12. How to evaluate post-secondary programs and/or work opportunities.
13. How to design and implement a self-marketing package (resume, application, portfolio).
